The hall on the southern side of the Baptistery and conceded to the “Fondazione Aquileia” by the Archdiocese of Gorizia was completed in occasion of the visit of Pope Benedict 16th in 2011.  Inside the building the visitors can admire the magnificent mosaic representing a peacock, allegedly dated between end of 4th and mid 5th century, some sarcophaguses belonging to the Late Antiquity period, found in the surroundings, however the most relevant items are the floor mosaics traced back to the 4th and 5th century, which still show traces of a fire.
All the structure represents a fundamental historic evidence for Aquileia: the unit was part of a building scheme inside which the Baptistery was enclosed, with a symmetrical hall on the opposite side.

The new protection structure  was erected with the purpose of preserving the mosaics.  Entrance from the Baptistery through the doorway of Massenzio located southwards.  The mosaics can be appreciated also from the outside, through a wide glass window-panel.
